Academic and Social Media Links to Sports, Leisure, Heritage and Tourism Pages

In this revised edition I am going to share with you the social media pages (Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn) that correspond directly to the vast collection of sports, leisure, heritage and tourism organisations, associations, networks, publishers, books, journals etc. In its rawest form this valuable flagship directory could be used as a starter package for those new to the glamour of social media (who to follow), or for those who simply want to tap into the plethora of relevant resources available at their disposal. Primarily it is for academics, practitioners, researchers and students in the fields of sports, leisure, heritage and tourism. This is my contribution.

Anthropology of Tourism Interest Group – Anthropology of Tourism is a network of tourism scholars seeking to formally establish itself as an interest group of the American Anthropological Association (AAA).

Ashgate Geography – Ashgate’s Human Geography, Environment, Planning and Transportation lists comprise an international and interdisciplinary range of research monographs and edited collections, including practical handbooks and reference volumes. Featuring well established series in a range of areas, including Economic and Cultural Geography, Environment, Planning, Tourism Heritage and Transport.

Ashgate Information and Cultural Management – Academic monographs, textbooks, reference and practical books written by and for researchers, cultural management professionals and students of information science, museum studies, and heritage management.

Association for Tourism and Leisure Education – The Association for Tourism and Leisure Education (ATLAS) was established in 1991 to develop transnational educational initiatives in tourism and leisure.

Association of Critical Heritage Studies – The Association of Critical Heritage Studies is a network of scholars and researchers working in the broad and interdisciplinary field of heritage and museum studies. Its primary aim is to promote heritage as an area of critical enquiry.

BBC Fast Track – The series with the latest news about the travel industry and advice on the latest deals and destinations, flights and holidays, for business travellers and tourists.

British Society of Sports History - The British Society of Sports History purpose is to promote the study of the history of sport, activities include encouraging research within and beyond academic settings, collaborating with the museum and heritage sector and promoting the study of the history of sport in higher and further education.

Cambridge Heritage Research Group - The Cambridge Heritage Research Group meets once a week in term-time for discussions on the theme of heritage. The program includes talks by invited speakers as well as members of the group (students and researchers from the fields of Archaeology, Social Anthropology etc.).

Channel View Publications - Publishes textbooks and research monographs in the field of tourism studies.

Critical Tourism – Thinking critically and thoughtfully about tourism and travel.

Crossovers - A website for conversations about creativity, tourism and economic development.

Culture @ the Olympics - Culture @ the Olympics is a non-profit magazine, a space where academics and practitioners involved with the Olympic Movement can publish brief commentaries, position pieces, original papers, presentations, working papers, and previously published papers, which may no longer have a visibility in their original form.

Economic and Social Research Council - The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is the UK’s main organisation for funding research and training in economic and social sciences.

Economic Development Resource Centre - The University of Greenwich’s Economic Development Resource Centre (EDReC) creates the ‘thinking space’ needed to build on innovative research within the university and to test new ideas and approaches to local economic development.

Emerald Tourism and Hospitality - Latest Tourism & Hospitality research from an international publisher of books and journals.

English Heritage - English Heritage exists to protect and promote England’s spectacular historic environment and ensure that its past is researched and understood.
